Our History

New Owners,

Same Great Tradition

Owners Josh and Olivia Randall are excited to continue the great tradition of providing wonderful products and unmatched customer service to all that walk through our doors. Originally from Osage and Iowa City respectively, Josh and Olivia met at Cornell College and have loved making Mount Vernon their home.

Bauman's will continue to be one of the area's premier clothing stores. Most of the clothes we offer can be tailored to ensure you receive the best fit possible, while maintaining optimal comfort and style. We carry the area's best selection of both big and tall, and can outfit anyone from farm, to the office, to a casual night out on the town.

Stop by and visit us, and our friendly associates will be there to help with your clothing needs!

Mike Smith

Calling Mike an "associate" is a little misleading. He has been entrenched at Bauman's since 1969! This is the only job he has ever had, and he is very good at what he does. After working at Bauman's as a teenager, and then owning the store for 26 years, he finally sold the store to Olivia and Josh in 2019.

He has once again become an "employee" and will continue to aid Olivia and Josh in learning all of the nuances of this great store. Mike will continue to cut back in his hours as he and his wife, Valerie, plan to enjoy retirement and travel frequently.

Jeff Carlson

Jeff has been associated with Bauman's for 48 years - nearly as long as Mike! Jeff started part time in 1972, his freshman year at Cornell, making his way north from the metropolis of Winfield-Mt. Union.

Jeff went full time in the mid-90's and has once again moved to part time with Olivia and Josh becoming the new owners. With 48 years of experience, you can bet your bottom dollar that Jeff knows what he's doing when it comes to fitting clothes!

Dan Krob

In business vernacular, Dan is known as a "boomerang" employee. He returned to Bauman's after first working in the store 44 years ago as a 17 year old freshman at the University of Iowa.

After 33 years and 7 relocations with the company he started with upon graduation, Dan retired and he and his wife, Sue, moved back to his home town of Solon. He was asked by Mike if he would help out at the store again beginning in 2012.

Ashlee Elliott

Ashlee is one of our newest employees and started working with us in November 2020. After finding a love for fashion and sewing Ashlee decided what better place to start her future than getting a job at a local clothing store. Right now, she goes to school at Mount Vernon High School and when she graduates she plans on going to a 4 year college to get into the fashion studies and textiles program.

She is very excited to learn what the business and customer service side of textiles is like. Ashlee hopes to be a part of the Bauman’s community as long as she can and can’t wait to help everyone have a wonderful experience at Bauman’s.
